Second Life

Second Life

As I logged into my Second Life account last night I wondered what I would run into being that the last time I was on the site it was 8:30am. Well, it turned out that at 6:30pm, the site seemed to be quieter than it was at 8:30am. I was shocked. I went to another nightclub, which I ended up sitting down by myself and watching people dance all over the place and I went into a couple of casinos. I figured the casino would be a little more active but it had all of four people roaming around that wanted absolutely nothing to do with me…I come in peace! So as soon as I realized my socializing skills were not up to par on Second Life I decided to fly around outside of a shopping mall for a few minutes. When I realized I wasn’t getting anywhere with this I decided to expand my search and see what interesting places I could find. I tried a baseball field, no result. I tried a university, no result. I tried a football game, no result. So after a few more random searches, I decided that my day on Second Life needed to end. Ha, I felt like a Second Life reject, who couldn’t find anybody nice to talk to about Second Life.

I’m pretty amazed at Second Life and have never seen anything like it before. I’m still working on changing my character to look more like myself; right now he has a rowdy pony tail and tights on, which I do not find myself ready to sport just yet. As I further dabble with Second Life I hope to figure out how all the commands work, to make my trips on Second Life more entertaining.

Second Level Sites

  • Apr. 9th, 2009 at 8:05 PM

Here are a few sites that I use on a daily basis that have multiple levels of navigation:

www.espn.com (sports news)

www.cnn.com (news)

www.nyse.com (stock market info)

Good and the Bad

  • Mar. 26th, 2009 at 1:35 AM

After looking through the worst websites of 2008, number one on the list was a website called Havenwork.com. There is definitely a legitimate reason this site is the worst of 2008. The site is a total MESS!! It’s a site dealing with political information with a number of links…when I say a number of links, I mean a NUMBER OF LINK. It’s one of the most unorganized, confusing, messiest web pages I’ve ever come across in my life. This site has absolutely no order, the pictures are barely visible, the color scheme makes no sense, and it’s really hard to focus on one thing in this site. Somehow this site needs to be put to rest or totally reconstructed. It’s hard to believe people could create such a disaster of a site and not realize it. Dr. D, I promise I will never waste your time with such an over the top site. If I do, feel free to just fail me.

A website that I think is pretty well drawn out is ESPN.com. It's a site that I use often and have never had any problems finding what I'm looking for. It's very organized and it does not have too much or too little on the home page. I also enjoy that the color scheme on the website is consistent even if you've gone away from the home page. If you have time, check it out.

thoughts on the future

Well seeing that I'm not trying to rush away my life and think about
how terrible it could actually be when I'm middle aged, I know I'm
fighting the inevitable. Unless...Exactly, with the new advances in
technology and genetic engineering it would be amazing in a few years
to stop aging. Who wouldn't want to look twenty-four years old
forever? I do! Anyway, with these advancements in technology and
genetic engineering comes a downside. It would definitely put those
dreaded nursing homes out of work, it could cause over population, and
it would be something that had to be monitored closely.
Because this is a relatively new technology,  we would not be aware of the future side effects.
With great advancements in technology and genetic engineering I think it
would only be appropriate to monitor everything closely. It would be
important to keep humans from being completely reliant on these technologies.

If something like that were to happen many jobs would be lost because
of machinery and it would leave those without the experience of using
these new technologies wondering were they stand in life.
For genetic engineering I think it would be a great thing if we could remove genes
that generate cancer before babies are even born. To me this would not
cause any over population; there are many other causes of death that
would keep our world from over population. But, creating a genetically
engineered "perfect being" can have a negative impact.

To me advancement in technology and genetic engineering have a great deal of promise but
with the promise comes the concerns of not letting it get carried
away. Unfortunately, as seen in the past it is in our nature to advance
further and further which, in some cases, has proven to be a mixed blessing.

web ideas

  • Feb. 10th, 2009 at 5:09 AM

For our second assignment we are to discuss possible ideas for our websites. As we have had some interesting discussions in class about a variety of issues in class, I have taken a specific interest in genetic engineering (GE) and its development throughout the years. GE has a bright future if its used in the correct context and is used to help not hurt our society. Who wouldn't want to deal with the stresses of aging? I know it would be something else to be able to dictate how long ones life should be. Science has made its strides and is getting closer and closer to being able to make something like this a reality.

So for a web page I think I could work with four major discoveries dealing with GE and have a link to three separate pages, each dedicated to an important discovery in GE. A picture dealing with each discovery and a small caption would be added to each link. My goal is to put together something interesting, easy to grasp, and informative.

Me

Morning everybody,

My name is Chris Peters, I'm a fifth year from central New jersey. I'm a former Trinity baseball player who had his career ended with a major shoulder surgery. Since my surgery I have been working full time for a hotel in Boerne, Tx and going to school. I hope to finish out may acedemic career here at Trinity in the fall of 2009.

I have three siblings who all reside on the east coast. My older sister is a lawyer in PA, my brother runs a high end fitness club in NYC, and my little sister is a junior at Gettysberg College in PA.

My father is a civil engineer, who works for a construction company in NYC and my mother is a high school social studies teacher in Brooklyn, NY.

I'm a virgo who enjoys long walks in the park, sunsets, etc...kidding. What more does everybody want to know about me?

My weekend activities are always a good time. I love watching sports and have currently taken up hunting. Anybody who has any other questions give me a shout, you know where to find me.
